Tenrai (天来), also known as "The Heaven Sent" are divine artifacts belonging to the Temple of Yamoshi and primarily wielded by the Honōshi. Similar to the Haraetō created by Shūkaku Tech and the Kodai invented by the Kingsmiths, these items can be used to cleanse the impurities found within Remnants. Despite their current overlapping usage Tenrai have existed far longer than both Haraetō and Kodai, tracing back their origins to the warring era between the Evil Saiyans and the Super Saiyan God Race.

Overview[]

The Tenrai represent a collection of artifacts that have been imbued with the divine energy of a god. While some of these artifacts are classified as weapons, that isn't always true as in the case of the Ruana and Shield, showing that different items have the potential to be elevated to the position of Tenrai as well. Despite this, the Tenrai have shown a distinct classification separating them from many other items touched by divinity, many believing that it was due to Deira's involvement and her position as a God of Creation, however, this is simply speculation.

Origins[]

The earliest forms of the Tenrai came into existence during the initial confrontation that took place between the formidable Evil Saiyan, Cumber, and Yamoshi, the esteemed leader of the Honōshi. In this encounter, Yamoshi was bestowed with a portion of the Central Kai's divine energy, which subsequently triggered the manifestation of the transformation that is now recognized as Super Saiyan God. During this initial transformation, the remaining five members of the Honōshi, through an unexpected feedback, were able to receive a limited degree of divinity. This newfound divinity, in turn, left an indelible mark on the items that were most cherished and held by them. These particular artifacts encompass a Staff, a Spear, a Blade, a Ruana, and a Shield.

Trials[]

The Trials of the Tenrai are sacred rites that occur when a Honōshi apprentice first comes into contact with one of the divine relics. Each Tenrai tests the virtue embodied by its first wielder, and the nature of the trial reflects the participants soul. These trials are not illusions or artificially constructed tests—they're reflections, shaped by the Tenrai’s divine nature and the imprint left by the original Honōshi who awakened them. The Staff, Spear, Blades, and Shield conduct their trials only when the current wielder or an Ensei deems an apprentice ready. Some Tenrai may remain dormant for years, waiting for a soul whose resonance matches the virtue of their first bearer. The Ruana alone is bound to bloodline, awakening only for a descendant of Wakaire who has reached the spiritual maturity of becoming the Supreme High Priestess.

Trial of the Tenrai Staff[]

The Trial of the Staff draws the apprentice into the Confrontation Field (placeholder), a space shaped by Kuikimo’s legacy of fearless clarity. Here, the apprentice must face their deepest fear, their most painful truth, and the memory they most wish to avoid. The Staff does not judge strength of body but courage of spirit and the willingness to step forward even when the truth is agonizing. Failure results in the Staff falling inert and cold, refusing to resonate.

If the apprentice approaches with malicious intent, cowardice masked as bravado, or a desire to use the Staff to manipulate others, the artifact unleashes the Shattering of Nerves. This psychic backlash forces the apprentice to confront their own fear in raw, unfiltered form, often leaving them collapsed or unconscious. Severe cases leave a discernible scar and a permanent inability to hide from their own terror.

Trial of the Tenrai Spear[]

The Spear’s trial manifests as the Oath Path (placeholder), a scenario where loyalty is tested through sacrifice. Rukadon’s unwavering devotion echoes through this space, presenting the apprentice with a choice between personal gain and allegiance to another. The Spear observes whether the apprentice’s loyalty holds firm even when betrayal would be easy and unseen. Failure causes the Spear to become impossibly heavy, refusing to be lifted.

If the apprentice harbors treacherous intent, false allegiance, or seeks the Spear for selfish ambition, the artifact responds with the Severing. This severs the apprentice’s emotional ties temporarily, leaving them unable to feel loyalty or connection for days—an agonizing emptiness that exposes the hollowness of their intentions.

Trial of the Tenrai Blades[]

The Blades test honor through the Silent Arena (placeholder), a realm shaped by Myōtō’s uncompromising integrity. In this trial, the apprentice is given the opportunity to win through dishonorable means, with no witnesses and no consequences—except the judgment of the Blades themselves. The trial reveals whether the apprentice’s moral code holds firm when no one is watching. Failure causes the Blades to dull and lose their edge, refusing to manifest their true form.

If the apprentice enters with deceitful intent, a willingness to harm unjustly, or a desire to wield the Blades for cruelty, the artifact triggers the Mirror of Shame. This forces the apprentice to relive every dishonorable act they have committed, stripped of justification, leaving them emotionally shaken and unable to draw any weapon for a time.

Trial of the Tenrai Shield[]

The Shield’s trial unfolds within the Reflective Gate (placeholder), a realm shaped by Urkōrabi’s calm insight. Here, the apprentice must determine what truly needs protection, even when appearances mislead. The trial challenges their discernment, emotional intelligence, and ability to see beyond surface-level threats. Acting too quickly or too slowly leads to failure, as does choosing to protect the wrong thing. When the apprentice is unready, the Shield becomes intangible, slipping through their hands like mist.

If the apprentice approaches with arrogance, manipulative intent, or a desire to use the Shield to dominate rather than protect, the artifact invokes the Clouding. This phenomenon temporarily strips the apprentice of clarity, leaving their thoughts muddled and their judgment impaired—a direct inversion of the wisdom the Shield demands.

Trial of the Tenrai Ruana[]

The Ruana’s trial is unlike any other, for it is bound to Wakaire’s bloodline and awakens only for a descendant who has reached the spiritual maturity required of the Supreme High Priestess. The trial is internal and ancestral, immersing the candidate in the emotional suffering of others—sometimes strangers, sometimes loved ones, sometimes echoes of Wakaire’s own memories. The Ruana tests whether the apprentice can bear this weight without turning away, without judgment, and without losing themselves. Failure is gentle: the Ruana simply remains dormant, as though asleep.

If a descendant approaches with cruelty, apathy, or a desire to exploit the Ruana’s healing power, the artifact withdraws entirely. In rare cases, it may inflict the Echo of Sorrow, forcing the apprentice to feel the emotional pain they have caused others, a consequence meant not to punish but to awaken empathy where none existed.

Usage[]

When wielded by ordinary beings, the Tenrai appear as common objects, still serving their original purposes. For example, a staff would be used for offense, albeit with significantly enhanced durability. Apart from this notable increase in strength, there are no easily noticeable external signs that reveal their special attributes. However, in the hands of a fully trained Honōshi, the Tenrai's hidden abilities are unleashed.

Through the use of the sacred art known as Crimson Resonance, an attuned Honōshi can fully release and draw upon the inherent potential within their divine artifacts. Activating this technique results in a dramatic transformation of the item, causing it to ignite with intense, radiant energy and emit a breathtaking, divine aura similar to that of a Super Saiyan God. Once the flames recede, the item, once plain in appearance, is now transformed. The Tenrai's exact appearance depends on the item and its user, meaning each Honōshi possesses a unique take on their divine item with each new generation.

Furthermore, the user of the Tenrai also undergoes a subtle physical transformation. Their eyes blaze with a piercing crimson hue, and their pupils contract to inky black, mirroring Yamoshi's first ascension to godhood. The sigil on their forehead also lights ablaze, marking the technique's completion.

Upon completion of the technique, the Honōshi enters a state similar to Saiyan Beyond God, with the caveat that the divine energy is borrowed from the Tenrai. As such, initial usage is limited, requiring the user to adapt to its power. Over time, the Saiyan's body will synchronize with the Tenrai, allowing for longer durations of use.

Power[]

Staff of the Tenrai (Latest Iteration Empowered Unleashed State)

Today, the Tenrai are among the most powerful divine items in the Alterverse, but it wasn't always so. Initially, they held only an ember of divine energy, a trace of the original energy lent to Yamoshi. While not inherently powerful, they could cultivate more divine power, but only when surrounded by external divine energy; otherwise, their cultivation halts. The Tenrai can regenerate spent energy, but cannot advance their power without the presence of a different divine power. They do not consume or absorb external divine energy but develop it on their own when synchronizing with a different divine power.

During the war against the Evil Saiyans, the Tenrai experienced a dramatic leap in power as they were bathed in the divinity of many Super Saiyan Gods. They transformed from an ember to a flame, bolstering incredible strength and power. During this time, each Tenrai alone possessed power comparable to the First Super Saiyan God. However, their power was still insufficient to defeat the Evil Saiyans.

After departing from Planet Sadala and arriving on Planet Ishfu, the Tenrai experienced their most dramatic leap in power yet. Residing on a planet that literally emanated divine energy, the Tenrai's power increased explosively. Before the eventual sealing of Ishfu's and the Saiyans' divine nature, the Tenrai evolved to a level of power incomprehensible at the time. Some believe that, had another war with the Evil Saiyans begun, the Tenrai would have been enough to end it.

Despite the years passing without the influence of Ishfu's or the Saiyans' once-mighty divine power, the Tenrai have remained at their current strength.

Abilities[]

Universal Abilities[]

Crimson Resonance
Crimson Resonance
  • Crimson Resonance (紅共鳴; Kurenai Kyōmei): the divine art of attuning ones selves with a divine item, a technique developed and employed by the Honōshi in order to access the incredible power of the Tenrai.
    • Aura of the Tenrai: allows the user to sense and manipulate the divine energy through the medium of the divine artifact
  • Soul Cleansing - When damaging those of tainted or corrupted souls they begin to become purified
  • Divine Cultivation - Divine Cultivation: Unlike many other divine artifacts, the Tenrai possess the ability to cultivate their own power under specific conditions. When surrounded by divine energy, the Tenrai will begin to grow in strength.

Artifact-Specific Abilities[]

  • Tenrai Staff:
    • Crimson Domain: Generates a field of stabilizing energy that suppresses chaotic and corrupted energy. This has also been seen affecting beings that operate off a hive mind as it temporarily cuts the connection, leading to confusion.
    • Tadasu: Allows the correction of erratic energy. Each strike from the Staff slows down and corrects the energy flow of their opponent. This is most useful against Berserker-Type warriors who often give into their berserker tendencies, giving up control for power.
    • Kiyome: A powerful shockwave that forcefully expels impurities from anything it come into contact with. This is very draining and considered ill-fitted for prolonged combat.
Tenrai of the Spear (First Iteration Unleashed)
  • Tenrai Spear:
    • Truth Piercer: A technique that ignores all forms of defense - Physical, Magical, and even Ki-based - allowing for the strike to connect to the targets "true form". Despite being so powerful the spear will become intangle for a short time after, leaving a wide opening for a counter attack. Best used as a finisher.
    • Crimson Thread: A crimson tether is weaved between the tassel of the spear and its target, suppressing regeneration and making escape nearly impossible
    • Tenbatsu (Heavenly Punishment): Each thrust delt from this blade cuts away at the corruptive nature plaguing the host, even impurities fused within their soul.
    • Tenkiri Tsuki (God-Slaying Thrust): A powerful attack that releases a hyper-condensed ray of divine energy after coming into contact with its target. This attack can only be used in battle against a being with God Ki, and requires the user to land a predetermined number of successful strikes on their opponent.
  • Tenrai Blade:
    • Crimson Verdict: A powerful Strike that targets the nature of an opponent's energy; If deemed impure the blade will begin burn away at the very source of their opponents power, their Ki Reserves. If allowed to complete this attack the opponent will be left without any Ki, leading to their demise. Once compared to a God of Destructions' Haikai, as it would completely erase that energy.
    • En-Kiri: Allows the user to target intangible "bonds" - curses, divine oaths, and any external influences on the mind, body, or soul.
    • Kanetsu: The temperature of the blade rises with the users' resolve. This increased the power output of the user so long as they remain in this state of mind, however, if the user is shaken out of this resolve the blade will expel all the accumulated heat. If this occurs the blade is unable to be used for Crimson Resonance for a long period of time.
    • Guren Shinpan Āku: A crescent wave of crimson flames unleashed from the blade when fired in a slashing motion.
  • Tenrai Ruana:
    • Kurenai Jinja: A protective aura around the wearer that cancels out corruption and weakens hostile divine energy against it
    • Kōchō no Ikaku: Enhanced the user physical and divine presence, intimidating foe's on the battlefield. In some cases, even forcing weaker opponents into submission or unconsciousness.
    • Kōka: A technique that conceals the user's Ki signature and creates tangible afterimages as decoys
    • Mamori: When a being of corrupted nature touches the Rauna the direct contact cleanses them. This has historically been one of the highest forms of defense against the Evil Saiyans, excluding the Tenrai of the Shield.
  • Tenrai Shield:
  • Crimson Aegis: A barrier that increases in strength the more its exposed to divine energy. The resonance of multiple sources of divine energy allows for the modification of its size and durability.
  • Harae Hansha (Purifying Reflection): A barrier technique that reflects the attack of its opponent back at then, but purified. Evil or corrupted energies are returned as crimson flames.
  • Crimson Reversal: When activated the user is able to convert damage dealt to the Shield into energy for a counter attack. This technique is powerful but requires time to covert. After the unleashing of a counter attack the Shield is penalized, receiving double the original damage thereafter.
